Location: Portland, Oregon (Corporate Office). This is an in-person position.

About the Opportunity:
Urban Development + Partners is seeking a Vice President of Real Estate Development to spearhead our development pipeline from concept to completion. We are looking for an entrepreneurial and results-driven real estate development leader passionate about developing successful people centered multifamily communities. This is a critical leadership role responsible for driving the growth and profitability of our development business line, identifying and executing high-quality multifamily projects, and expanding our market presence. You will have the autonomy to shape strategy, build relationships, secure financing, and deliver best-in-class buildings.
Key Accountabilities:
- Market Analysis & Strategy: Analyze target markets to identify investment opportunities, synthesize data from various sources, monitor trends, and maintain a data-driven approach to inform development strategy and site selection.
- Deal Sourcing & Acquisition: Cultivate and manage relationships with brokers, landowners, and other sources to generate a consistent pipeline of high-quality multifamily development opportunities in target geographies. Lead negotiations and manage the acquisition process to ensure timely, risk-mitigated closings. Position will require weekly outbound engagements for business development and responsive communications with existing acquisition sourcing partners.
- Financial Analysis & Due Diligence: Oversee and perform complex financial modeling, underwriting, and feasibility analysis for potential development projects. Lead the comprehensive due diligence process, ensuring thorough investigation and timely presentation of findings to support investment decisions.
- Capital Sourcing (Debt & Equity): Develop and maintain strong relationships with lenders and limited partners (LP investors). Create compelling investment pitches and lead efforts to secure project-level debt and equity financing. This position will require weekly outbound engagements for business development and responsive communications with existing capital partners.
- Project Execution & Profitability: Manage multiple development projects simultaneously through all phases (entitlement, design, construction, stabilization), ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Leadership & Relationship Management: Build and lead a high-performing development team. Foster strong relationships with city officials, consultants, contractors, and community stakeholders to facilitate project approvals and execution, establishing the firm as a preferred partner. Drive the profitability and strategic direction of the development business unit.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in real estate development, with significant experience specifically with multifamily projects.
- Proven track record of successfully managing the full development lifecycle, from site acquisition and entitlement through financing, construction, and stabilization.
- Demonstrated experience sourcing and closing development deals.
- Strong financial modeling, underwriting, and analytical skills (high proficiency in Excel is essential).
- Experience securing project-level debt and equity financing.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders (investors, lenders, brokers, consultants, government officials, etc.).
- Deep understanding of real estate market dynamics, preferably within the Portland metro area or the Pacific Northwest.
- Familiarity with zoning, entitlement, and permitting processes.
- Value community, sense of place, and beautiful design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (MBA, MRED, or similar).
- Direct experience managing and developing team members.
- Established professional network within the West Coast and Mountain States real estate and development community.
- Experience with both institutional LP equity and syndicated equity structures.

- Competitive Compensation: Base salary range of $125,000 - $175,000, commensurate with experience.
